Sweets for Summer To Satisfy Your Cravings

As the summer season approaches, we are faced with many important decisions. These may include things like To get the ice cream or not… or Should I lay in the sun or go on a run? Oftentimes we choose the more appealing option, but what if that could be avoided?

Making decisions that positively impact your health in the long-run can be the best way to go (yes… even when that soft serve is calling your name). There are delcious, healthy alternatives to those sweet summer cravings we try and avoid.

Italian Ice

The cool, sweet, and refreshing alternative to a slushee. Italian ice has less calories than ice cream while satisfying the same sweet tooth.  Luigi’s brand offers sugar-free Italian Ice options for those looking to REALLY cut out the sugar.  Most of the other products from Luigi’s boast 100 calories or less.  They come in lots of fruity flavors!

Fresh Fruit Smoothie

Depending on what you make them with, fruit smoothies can be very healthy. Using wholesome ingredients like greek yogurt, almond milk, fruit, veggies, and a dash of your favorite spices can make for quite the treat. Maybe add a little dark chocolate for the health benefits and extra sweet craving!

Homemade Ice Pop

Have you ever checked Pinterest for ‘Homemade Ice Pop Recipes’? If not, I highly recommend doing so. Ice pops are low in calories, but HIGH in flavor.  They don’t leave your stomch feeling heavy or you feeling groggy and instead leave you refreshed! They can be made in a variety of flavors, shapes, and sizes. Whether you’re looking for a midday cool-down or evening refreshment, there is bound to be an ice pop that hits your fancy.

Frozen Fruit

Toss some sliced banana and grapes in the fridge for a tasty dessert. Leave them in for about 20-30 minutes before you want to eat them for the perfect post-dinner snack and up to 24-hours. These are all-natural and packed with fruit-filled nutrients. Other fruits can be frozen as well.  Add a few to your water in place of ice cubes for the flavor enhancement.

Now, I’m not saying to indulge on these EVERY night.  These are just healthier alternatives to many of the sugar-loaded sweets we tend to reach for. They may not be totally guilt free, but they are pretty close!
