Sparkling Under the Boston Lights: A Lantern Experience

This post was created in partnership with Zoo New England.

Wedding planning aside, things have been pretty quiet in our corner of the world. I am so used to new experiences and finding things to do that are outside of the home and I’ve really missed it. When I heard about Boston Lights: A Lantern Experience at the Franklin Park Zoo I was ALL IN.

New England Friends… this is an experience you won’t want to miss. I was not fully aware of how big the displays, by presenting partner National Grid, were. You walk through the zoo and it feels like it’s never going to end in all of the right ways. Ava and I were blown away with the level of detail we saw around every corner.

It was like being in a fairytale

There are over 50 incredible displays and hundreds of lanterns for you to get lost within. I am including a handful of photos in the post but won’t share all of my favorites so you’ll have to go see for yourself! The 66-foot-long shark tunnel and 197-foot-long dragon are worth the trip alone. I have already started telling all of our friends and family to go because it’s an experience visitors of all ages will love. Plus, there are plenty of gram-worthy photo opps for you to take advantage of.

The best part? They only let so many in at a time so you feel completely comfortable being there. It felt like we were alone most of the time. With so much to see, everyone stayed far apart and was very considerate. You do have to wear a mask but, hey, maybe you can step it up and get one that lights up as bright as the Boston Lights displays.

Health & Safety Protocols:

  • Wear a face mask/covering
  • Maintain social distance of 6 feet between other guests
  • Enter no more than 5 minutes before your ticket time
  • Respect zoo rules to protect humans and animals

The experience will be open nightly from now through September 7th at which point you can visit Thursday through Sunday until November 1st. You can schedule a time between 6 and 10:30 PM. We went at 8:30 PM and it was perfect timing. As we get into fall I imagine the earlier times would make for a great experience (especially for kids!) and the weather will make for a night worthy of walking through the zoo.
