Staying Productive While Working From Home

Waking up and walking a few rooms away is not something we are all accustomed to. And, as time goes on, it only gets more mundane. You wake up, pour a coffee, grab a ONE MINI, and settle in at your desk… where you’ll be for the next six to eight hours. Falling into a routine can be good but getting complacent in your routine can be bad. Bad for your psyche and bad for your waistline (trust me, I know).

As of late, I’ve been working hard at implementing routines that make me more productive and active before, during, and after my work-from-home workday. At first, it feels like a chore to settle into a new routine (and to plan one) but you’ll quickly find certain tasks start to stick. Before you know it you are cultivating a more positive environment to work, live, and thrive in.

Here’s what I’ve made a part of my routine:

1 | Set your schedule with a planner

You might think “yeah, yeah I’ve heard this before” and I hear you. Why? Because I WAS there before. When I worked in the office I didn’t really need to take this advice but now my productivity levels are off the charts! Writing down my tasks on a daily basis helps me to keep myself accountable.

2 | Exercise or not, make time to get your steps in

Though my exercise routine has fallen off track, I am still watching my steps. Why? Because getting in enough steps is important for your health and it’s something you can do without leaving the house. Get up every so often and walk on the treadmill, get some extra chores done (standing or active), or go the extra mile and get outside.

3 | Bookend your day with mindfulness

I used to write down what I was grateful for on the train into work every morning then I stopped. There was no reason except for a change in routine. Start your day by meditating, writing down your recognition list, reading some uplifting stories, or hitting the mat for some yoga then end the day by relaxing in your own way.

4 | Take your lunch break in another room

This might seem silly but it helps to break you out of the no-break cycle that comes with working from home. At first, I ate every single meal in the office and I never took my eyes off of the screen. You deserve a break now just like you did when you worked on-location! Even if it’s just a room away, grab your fork and change your scenery.

5 | Meal prep and snack smart

You’re busy, you’re distracted, and… you’re hungry. You need to eat. Set yourself up for success with a meal plan and a smart snacking station. Recently I have been keeping the new ONE MINIS in our home office for tasty plant-based nourishment. With just 80 calories and less than 1g of sugar, they fit into most every meal plan.

Thanks to my friends at ONE Brands for sponsoring this post. Their ONE MINIS have become a staple in my routine because they are the perfect snacking size. They have so many great flavors including my favorite Maple Glazed Doughnut and they’re available at Walmart and Amazon for accessible shopping from home.
