Minimizing Makeup For Summer

The summer is a tough season for makeup application.

Unless you’re a pro at makeup application and manage to keep your face tame all day long, you will most likely face the complications many others do: sweat, sun, and breakouts.

It’s summer, you’re tan, and everything is HOT HOT HOT! Why should you cake on the makeup like you’re trying to hide from the gorgeous sun?

I’m not saying don’t wear makeup (I do, trust me). I just recommend using this tricks to wear less makeup and still look and feel beautiful.

Lose The Foundation

At no point in the summer do I wear foundation. I can guarantee you, if the weather is over 90 degrees, I will not be wearing base layers of primer and foundation. Wearing foundation that you sweat off can leave you with streaks and breakouts because your skin is absorbing those extra oils all day.

I suggest using a tinted moisturizer that keeps skin tone even and leaves you with a beautiful glow. Moisturizers keep the skin soft and can contain SPF which will also promote sun safety. Who wants their face to burn? Not me.

Waterproof Mascara

Waterproof is necessary for summertime. Whether you’re swimming, sweating, or going to the beach you will need a waterproof mascara. There are a variety of waterproof mascaras on the market, but few that I find work for all day wear.

Mascara is one of the makeup products I don’t like to go a day without, so I’ve tried many to narrow it down to my favorites.

Lip Gloss > Lipstick

Lipstick can be heavy in the summer. Swapping lipstick for a great lip balm or lip gloss is ideal in warmer weather. Lipstick can dry up quickly while lip gloss can keep your lips smooth and shiny for much longer.

Tip: Try more vivid colors to make your teeth and eyes look brighter.

Bronzing Powder

When you can swap liquid or cream for powder you will be golden. The creams don’t blend will with skin when it’s wet, sticky, and hot. Using a powder is lighter and leaves less of a chance of streaking. You can reapply the powder easily if you pack it.

Enhance your tan with a bronzing powder because it looks great! Bronzer can add the perfect amount of extra color and shimmer to your skin.

Be Bold, Be Bright

Using bright colors will enhance your tan and give you a more summery look. Dark colors run easier and can be tough on photos in the sunshine. Using brighter colors will really make your skin tone stand out and make you feel sunny!

Try coral, light pinks and purples, beige, and cream shades.

My favorite palettes are from BH Cosmetics and Tarte Cosmetics. They have multiple colors that work for morning, noon, and night. They have great pigmentation and make eyeliner application easy because they don’t run-off.

Seal The Deal

This is a product I use all year long, but works especially well in the summer months. Your makeup will resist running and blotching for long periods of time. If you’re working outside or going to an event, this is for you.

Make sure your makeup stays put with a simple spray!
