September Book Stack

Every Semester, students are expected to purchase books. Whether it be textbooks, agenda books, reading books, etc., books can start to get pricey. And for what?

The majority of college students I know don’t even break the spine of their textbook open. It sits on their dorm room desk waiting to collect dust until December when they hope to sell it off to someone else.

For some students, the textbook is absolutely worth it. Most professors don’t even use the textbooks they ‘require’ you to have. I typically pick and choose based on which seem necessary (based on the syllabus) and if something changes during the semester I can easily rent or download a book on the Kindle!

In addition to the books I am required to have this semester, I’ve added a few for my own personal and professional gain. To fellow students: I highly recommend researching books that will improve your knowledge of your intended field of work.

1 | THINK AND GROW RICH • Napoleon Hill

Think and Grow Rich GR

Think and Grow Rich – the book my grandparents have been telling me to read for years and I’ve never given a second thought. Well… now is the time. I have heard great things and, based on the reviews, others have enjoyed the book! It has been rated over 90,000 times on Goodreads which is absolutely crazy!

I cant’ wait to share my thoughts on this book.

2 | GROWTH HACKER MARKETING • Ryan Holiday

Growth Hacker Marketing GR

Great book! I suggest this to ANY student or professional who is involved or wants to know more about the marketing, business industry and it’s new trends. I knew a lot about ‘growth hacker marketing’ but this book really put my brain to work.

I felt inspired after reading it and, as a social media manager, it gave me a lot of good ideas and insights to using social media to build a brand. The examples were some of my favorites. I will definitely be investing in a few more of Ryan Holiday‘s books.

3 | THE NEW RULES OF MARKETING & PR • Scott Wiley

New Rules OfMarketing & PR GR

4 | ARGUING ABOUT WAR • Michael Walzer

Arguing About War GR

5 | KING LEAR • William Shakespeare

King Lear GR

6 | WHAT REALLY MATTERS • Arthur Kleinman

What Really Matters GR

What Really Matters was a good read. It took me longer than most of the books I’ve read due to it’s slow, factual nature. I definitely took a lot out of reading this book on topics I hadn’t really focused on before. For summer reading, I would suggest something lighter! For school, this is one of the better (most interesting) titles I’ve read!

7 | EVERYBODY WRITES • Ann Handley

Think and Grow Rich GR

I’m trying to spruce up my writing techniques. Being a blogger takes a lot of creativity in writing and I would like to start using new tactics. Learning how to write again seems a little silly, but using writing for online communication is very different. By using this book I hope to advance my blog and start reaching a larger web audience.

8 | ADVERTISING CREATIVE STRATEGY • Tom Altstiel & Jean Grow

Advertising Creative Design GR

These are all of the current books I’ve decided on or have been assigned (about 50-50) for the next few months, starting in September. Below I have included a few titles that I would especially like to read, for leisure, if I have time.

9 | HOW TO BE PARISIAN • Anne Berest, Audrey Diwan, Caroline de Maigret, Sophie Mas

How to Be Parisian GR

This book just looks fun! I saw it in Urban Outfitters and knew I had to read it. The reviews are pretty good and I’ve heard good things about it. My immediate thoughts were “well… I’d like to learn a little about love, style, and bad habits considering the french women always look lovely.” Maybe that’s what we all need in our lives – to be a bit more Parisian.

10 | THE POWER OF NOW • Eckhart Tolle

The Power Of Now GR

I joined a Yoga challenge through BeachBody with Jessica Wright for September. She is starting up a book club and this is the title. It looks like a fantastic book and, based on the ratings, I believe it is. 4.09 star average with 90,000+ ratings is crazy!

I’m ready to live in the now. Are you?

All of the above photos and ratings on individual books have been provided from Goodreads. Be sure to follow me as I attempt to complete my reading challenge by the end of December! https://www.goodreads.com/BiancaMarie923
