M/BAR | Where to Eat in Mystic, CT

Funny story… Paul and I visited The Whaler’s Inn last year and had no idea we had already been to M/BAR then. At that time we had only popped in to grab a coffee and a light bite to eat and we remembered it being quaint and unique in its selection and design. This time around we were getting the opportunity to dine with their team.

I can honestly say there is a vast difference between the breakfast and dinner dining experiences. It almost felt like we were at a completely different restaurant! The morning was so bright and buzzed with tourists and locals getting ready for their day whereas dinner brought in live music, bubbly conversation, and a crowd ready for the night out.

The Dining Experience

We were seated in the corner of their backroom which is where the majority of tables are. From the tables to the wall art, I love how well designed M/BAR is. It was very lively and the tables were pretty close together which reminded me of an intimate city setting. This is a great spot to visit after a long day of work or visiting attractions.

There is an open space when you walk in where there is a decent-sized bar alongside more casual places to sit back and enjoy your drinks. The bar felt comfortable and relaxed; definitely a great spot to let loose and not feel like you are in a stuffy environment. The cocktail menu was delicious (especially the seasonal options) and they had an impressive wine menu.

The Bite

Our waitress Marnie was an absolute gem. She had such a bold personality that really shined and had us feeling personally catered to. Her knowledge of both Mystic and the menu helped us quite a bit as out-of-towners. We even found out that she was nominated for a Crazies Award this year for her outstanding work as a server – GO MARNIE!

Everything was full of flavor and plated to perfection. I was very impressed by the mix of food on the menu and how, coming out one after another, good each item looked. We started with the street corn and a classic charcuterie to pair with our wine before moving on to dinner. Paul chose the Lettuce Wraps while I went with the Pan-Seared Scallops.

We finished up with a sweet bite for dessert and hot coffee,.

The Full Package

We left feeling so satisfied and happy with our experience at M/BAR. It was the type of restaurant you want to really take your time to enjoy. I would return in a heartbeat to experience that level of service again!
